Smiling with a Toothache

It's been a while since I last wrote a blog. The loss of my grandpa had a huge impact to a lot of people and as for me, the passion for writing dwindled a bit. While inspirations, ideas and blessings still continue, the actual passion for writing about them got affected when my grandpa went home with the Lord. It's still difficult to accept and we're still praying for comfort as we face this devastating incident.

The holidays were tough for most of us since it's our first time not having grandpa around. He usually wears the santa hat and distribute the gifts on Christmas eve. The season is quite different now, I didn't have the honor to wear the santa hat though. It's important to keep in mind that Christmas is all about the coming of Jesus in our lives. With that mindset, I would say I still had a good holiday with my family and friends.

Once we put Christ in the center of our lives, no matter how things change, peace will still rule in our hearts. I now understand better the meaning of joy. It's is a lot different from happiness. I can be happy because I received a Starbucks thermos from my girlfriend. I can be disappointed because I didn't receive anything from my girlfriend. The thing about happiness is that it depends on circumstance to occur. Without fun and sweet moments, I won't be happy. Joy in the other hand is NOT dependent on good moments to trigger. It's complicated to be happy without something good happening at first. Joy comes from the Lord. We can be joyful because God orchestrates everything for the good and He only settles for the best in everyone. Romans 8:28 "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them." That's my favorite verse because it assures me that everything happens for a good reason. Even though things go wrong, we know that God disciplines us to be better. He is loving, faithful, patient and giving. What can grab us from our joy if we hold on to those promises? Joy is learning how to smile with a toothache.

I praise God because even though I've experienced a painful loss a couple of months ago, He still gave me reasons to smile this Christmas and New Years. He assured me of His love and of His sovereignty above circumstances. He made me hold on His promises and gave me a wonderful holiday with family. I received great blessings from Him and I'll be happy to blog about them soon.

All of us have more things to expect from God because He has our best interests whatever year it is.

Have a good 2013 people :)
