Snap

I just heard a very sad news today. One of the best teachers and mentors in University of Asia and the Pacific passed away. It was shocking because it all happened in a snap. He was alive and kicking one day and then one morning he just didn't wake up. Family, teachers, co workers, students and friends are  mourning for his lost. He was indeed a great man, one of the most successful person I know.

Everything happens for a reason. This one is hard to understand. No one can't fathom why he had to leave. As I pray for him and all the people who mourns for him, God enlightened me. What I'll try to say is an encouragement for this moment. I'm seriously downcast for this news. I'm here in Canada and I can't even visit the funeral. So the best I can do is to pray and to say this.

He was a very successful businessman. I think he owns 5 popular fast food chains in the Philippines. He has a name in the industry and he is well known. Students would go to him for help about business problems but what they get from him is far beyond any business advice. He loved helping people. He's an encourager. He's there to tell you that school is not all about grades. He's there to tell you that you can accomplish anything. He's there to support your family and ready to ask how the baby is doing. He would tell you that you're a force to be reckoned with and that you deserve all the best in life. He will tell you that he believes in you. He would be the reason for you to graduate. He's a role model and he should have lived a longer life.

Here's the thing...

I don't know the guy personally. We didn't have a chance to talk. I haven't even shaken his hand and he doesn't know my name. We don't know each other at all. All I know about him is that he owns 5 popular restaurants and he's a good teacher. Why do I know all the descriptions I said on top then? Because that's what students, friends and family was telling about him when he passed away. When I opened my facebook page, all I saw were people telling these good characteristics about him. He's an awesome guy and based from everything I read, he was remembered as an inspiration.

When your life ends, people will remember you for the good you've done. People will remember you with the love and care you showed. People will remember the wise words you say, those words of encouragement that just boosts your confidence. Sir Brendan invested time on relationships and that's why he is an inspiration to all, he will always be.

Our life is meant for love. It's meant to love God and then to love people like what he did. He went beyond being a teacher and a businessman. He became an encourager, motivator, father and a friend. Life is fast. It can end in a snap. Let's invest our time wisely and let's all focus on the good that can be done with the situation in front of us. We won't know when our time will be but what we have is now, so let's seize it.

Let the life of Sir Brendan be an inspiration to all of us. Not just in the business side but also by how he showed love.

Rest in peace Mr. Brendan Yu.
